FAQ
Common questions
Do I need an IEC to import?
Yes, for commercial imports. The Importer Exporter Code is issued online by DGFT and linked to your PAN. GST registration lets you claim IGST paid on imports as input credit.
What is the minimum shipment size?
Express can be a single carton, air cargo usually starts around 45 kg, and sea LCL from 1 CBM. A full container typically becomes economical from about 15 CBM.
How is customs duty calculated?
Basic customs duty is charged on the assessable value (CIF). A 10% social welfare surcharge applies on that duty, and IGST is charged on CIF plus duty plus surcharge. Rates depend on the HS code.
What is chargeable weight?
For air and express, carriers charge the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is length × width × height in cm divided by 6000 for air cargo, or 5000 for express.
Which mode is cheapest?
Sea freight is the lowest cost per kilo for most goods. LCL suits small volumes; for urgent or light, high-value goods, air can work out better overall.
Can you buy from 1688, Alibaba or Taobao for me?
Yes. Send the links and quantities. We coordinate with the supplier, arrange payment and collect the goods for shipment along with your other cargo.
Which products need BIS certification?
Many electronics, LED lights, chargers, cables, toys and some industrial goods fall under compulsory BIS registration. Share your product before ordering and we will check.
How do I track my shipment?
You receive the bill of lading or airway bill number, plus WhatsApp updates at pickup, departure, arrival, customs release and delivery.
How are charges paid?
Freight, clearance and delivery are invoiced in INR. Duty and IGST are paid to Indian customs against the bill of entry, or included in one price under DDP.
Can goods from several suppliers travel together?
Yes. With LCL consolidation, cartons from different suppliers are collected, combined and shipped under one set of documents.
